Recently someone wrote to me and asked: Why am I unable to find locals using internet dating services in my area? I have tried several supposed Local Dating Services and I still have not met or even found anyone close to my town, what am I doing wrong here?
Well today I want to answer this concerning question and try to explain why many internet dating services don’t offer much in the way of locals in their listings that actually are local to your area search.
The reason for this is quite simple, it’s a numbers game. Basically this biggest factor for finding someone of interest in your neck of the woods, is based on where you are located. You see, smaller communities do not have the numbers that metro areas do, therefore they don’t receive nearly as many local sign ups to their services.
I know that many companies offer local listings but the fact of the matter is, they merely want you to search their network, so they promote the term “locals” and “local dating”, in their advertisements. It may seem like a sneaky tactic and it is, but it’s highly effective for their marketing purposes.
Just imagine for a minute that you were in Los Angeles, Denver or even New York. What would the odds of finding truly local dating options be? Well it’s fairly easy to imagine, especially since there are literally millions of people in these areas and out of those millions, there are bound to be huge amounts of lonely people looking for dates, companionship and of course love.
Now, let’s imagine that you are from a place like Sheridan (Wyoming), Bismark (North Dakota) or even Missoula (Montana). Yes there are definitely lonely singles looking for something meaningful but how many possible internet daters would you have. Again it’s obviously a numbers game. Heck you could add all the people in each of these small cities and rural towns and still not have the amount of online dating specific users that you would in a major city or metropolis. This amounts to very few options when you are stuck looking for someone somewhat local.
For example: If I were in Denver and I was searching the locals database of profiles, I would probably turn up thousands of profiles without ever looking outside Denver. On the other hand, if I were searching locals in Sheridan, Wyoming (which is a lil smaller on the map..he he), I would most likely find a few profiles but for them to be actual locals, I would need a miracle.
Now that’s not suppose to turn the small and rural town dating service users away, it’s just to let you all know that you might need to broaden your searches a bit. To give you another example, let’s say I’m in Missoula, Montana. Now this is much larger than a place like Sheridan, Wyoming and even so, if I were searching for someone to meet, I would most likely have to broaden my searches to include surrounding areas like other places in the state of Montana or since Missoula happens to be close to the eastern state line of Idaho, I would search nearby areas in Idaho as well. Now I know this makes things a little more work and not nearly as inviting when you are searching for that special someone but on the reality side of things, people have been known to search all the way across the world and found someone.
As another example, I’d imagine that you are somewhat familiar or at least you have heard of Russian Brides services and the like, well that is exactly what these people have tried in order to find that perfect match. They didn’t just look outside the box, hell they looked outside the country and we’re talking across the globe. This doesn’t mean that you need to search the planet but it should be a reminder to broaden the scope of your search depending on how hard you want to work at it.
To me, it’s kind of like adoption. I mean people have been known to search the smallest third world countries in existence and have found an adoptable child to complete their families. In fact, celebrities do it all the time and today it’s almost the norm when you are in need of a child to adopt. You might be thinking that it’s much more different than that but really it’s not. People look for love in the oddest of places sometimes and whether it’s a child to adopt or a beautiful woman or handsome gentleman to possibly meet and date, it’s all done in the name of love and the hopes that it could be as rewarding as the effort entailed.
To recap, don’t forget to broaden your search areas when using internet dating services if you live in a small or rural community. And don’t let this information discourage you, there is always someone just like you interested in find that special someone online. You just might have to think outside the box a little.
I hope you found this useful and I hope you come back soon for more insight into internet dating services and how you can find your perfect match online.
