Do online dating services work?

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

So I’m 21, and I’ve had a string of really bad relationships. Liars, cheaters, the works. I’m actually considering one of those online dating websites. Does anyone know much about them? Used or know someone who used them? I obviously don’t know where to look for the good guys. Can anyone help?
I’ve heard a few personal stories and just like regular dating, it works and doesn’t work. Personally, I think in this day and age people should utilize online resources. What’s the difference between meeting someone online or in a bar? The person in a bar can easily lie to you about themselves. I’ve taken a lying and deception course and it shows that people tend to lie less about huge issues online. The best one to use is eHarmony.com. They have a questionnaire you have to fill out beforehand and they match you up based on your answers on what they have researched to be the top characteristics of a successful relationship. It also has guided communication so you can slowly work to get to know one another. The downside is that it is quite expensive. It takes time (just like regular dating) and people are always in a rush. My friend’s mom uses Match.com and she’s met some potential dates on there. Match.com is less expensive and gives you more freedom to write what you want about yourself. It’s open communication and they match you up on what you say you want. Whichever service you choose, just like regular dating, realize that it takes time and you might need to have subscriptions from 3 months to a year to find someone. Good luck on your search!

Anyone knows a reliable correspondence/dating site for seniors? Not American, as I live in Europe.?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Would like to join a dating/correspondence site for making friends in the UK/Europe. Not too many serious ones around. Any suggestions?

Okcupid is worldwide, for all ages and great for making friends in the UK. Some other European countries have lots of members (like the Netherlands and Sweden), some don’t have that many. It used to be a site to take tests on, but over the past years has been a dating and social site. If you take time to actually answer the matching questions, it’s a good indication of people you’ll get along with.

Single Seniors, Retired Or Not, Widowers and Divorcees: What Is The Online Dating Phenomena All About?

Friday, September 18th, 2009

As the online dating scene explodes into a multi-billion dollar industry, many onlookers and skeptics have begun to realize it’s potential. Many have asked the question,”Why should I use them? Well, the answer is as simple as the question: it’s a no brainer. Millions of regular people are utilizing these once tabooed services for finding love and companionship at exponential rates. So what is your hold up? Are you of those onlookers that thinks they have no problem with finding that special someone on their own? If that were the case then you’d be in love or at the least, in a relationship that compliments all there is about you, or most of you anyway. Isn’t that what dating is about? Isn’t the idea of having someone more important than being alone? If you answered yes, then please keep reading, I’m going to explain the benefits and then the best strategies for signing up and getting involved… First thing you have to do, if you really want this to work, is you must keep an open mind. Nothing will ever come of these services if people are not optimistic. Secondly, you really need to know what your ultimate goal, when using an internet dating service, would be. That would include knowing why you are here and what you want out of this whether it’s simple companionship or a meaningful relationship that could potentially lead to love and possibly finding your soul-mate.Third, you want to be more transparent. The reason for this is super simple, it basically allows you to be you. No hiding from the truth or misrepresenting yourself will hold any answers for you and pretending to be someone you are not will only damage your chances for a successful and meaningful experience. Many people just like you are using these online dating services and finding that there is still much hope, regardless of age or physical attributes. Everyone from young, hard-bodied singles to mature, distinguished seniors have been able to find meaningful matches. The hardest part about using an online dating service is that you must really be selective and that is something only you can do once you have decided to stay open minded, figured out who or what you are looking for and why and of course remain true to yourself as an individual since only you can be you. Now we both know, that there are many internet dating horror stories and such that have plagued the online dating world since it’s conception, I can’t deny that. But the one thing that has stayed the same, is the fact that there are still services online for the dating population. To me that says that there are many more positive experiences than there are bad. I’m not saying that you won’t have any bad experiences, heck, I couldn’t say that about your favorite restaurant but what I want you to realize is, that without the positive and hopeful mindset of something possibly working in your favor, you are merely setting yourself up for disappointment regardless of what you are doing or trying. To date there are literally hundreds if not thousands of internet dating services available. Also to date, we know that there are millions of lonely folks looking for that special someone as well. If it were not for these dating services, then there would be many many more still searching and ultimately we would have missed the boat, the love boat that is. Isn’t it time to be a little more optimistic about finding love and shouldn’t we give things a shot even if they are new to us? I think it’s time to try going with the flow and give dating sites a chance to prove themselves. What do you have to lose, besides loneliness? If you would like to know more about the internet dating services I promote or share with people, then simply leave me a comment here on the blog and I would be glad to give you some ideas. In case you are wondering why you should take any advice from me, well to say the least I have been in dozens of worthwhile relationships with whom most of them, I still remain good friends with and in the end I have finally found my soul-mate to share the rest of my life with. To date I have been happily married for more than 8 years to a beautiful woman who is also my best friend. My next post of the week will be on my personal love story to my wife. It’s a story of trials, obstacles, love, respect and devotion. Honestly, I’ve been told it’s a Cosmo story but I have yet to send it in to see what they think. Maybe I should..Anyways, please check back to read my love story for the ages and let me know if you think I should have it published in Cosmo. If I get enough input I might just have to. Thanks for reading and I hope you can give online dating sites a fair chance like the millions that already have…
